In 1988, the Västmanland spelmansförbund published two
volumes on the folk music of the county, known as the
“Yellow Volumes.” The board has now decided to make
this collection available on their website for
everyone to explore.
The collection contains 1,500 tunes, 100 ballads, 70
biographies of folk musicians, and 60 photographs. It
also includes stories about customs and traditions, as
well as accounts of old folk music traditions in
various locations throughout Västmanland.

Commons
In 2022, the Svenskt visarkiv
carried out a project focusing on the
nyckelharpa in collaboration with Wikimedia
Sweden, in which the organisation published
recordings and photographs from the archive of musicologist Jan Ling. The
result was 537 recordings and 134 photographs,
which are now freely available to the public via
Wikimedia Commons. The project forms part of a
long-standing collaboration between the Svenskt
visarkiv and Wikimedia Sweden.
